Rwanda FDA Orders Recall of Alcoholic Drinks from Eight Manufacturers

The Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA) has ordered the immediate removal of alcoholic drinks produced by eight local manufacturers from the market after finding that the companies failed to comply with required quality and safety standards.

The decision, announced on August 2, 2026, follows inspections and assessments carried out by the regulator. Rwanda FDA also suspended the operations of the eight manufacturers and cancelled their production licenses.

The authority directed that all affected products be recalled from shops, bars and other selling points across the country. Manufacturers have been instructed to collect the products from distributors and retailers and return them to their factories. Distributors and retailers must immediately stop selling the affected drinks and send back any remaining stock. Manufacturers are also required to submit a report on the implementation of the recall within three working days.

The products affected by the recall include Red Waragi, Ngufu Gin, King's Vodka, Royal Castle Gin, Medal Gin, G&S Rum, United Flavoured Gin, Maguma Gin, Saint Nero Gin, Veritas Gin, African Buffalo Gin, Moonlight Vodka, ENAK Gin, LEVI Gin, Be One Gin, Hope Man Gin, RACK Gin, Z.C.N Milestone Whisky, JUMONGO, as well as all other alcoholic beverages produced by the eight manufacturers, even if they are not listed.

The manufacturers whose products have been withdrawn from the market are Ingufu Gin Ltd, NBG Ltd, SKY Drop Industries Ltd, Africana Buffalo Ltd, NOPA Company Ltd, Roots Investment Group Ltd, Rugali Agro-processing Company and Zhonglu Industrial Liability Company Ltd.

Rwanda FDA urged members of the public to stop consuming all products covered by the recall until further notice. The regulator also warned that anyone who fails to comply with the directive will face legal action.

The authority added that inspections and investigations are still ongoing and said more manufacturers or products could be subjected to similar measures if they are found to be in violation of the country's quality and safety requirements.
