Rwanda Announces Student Travel Schedule for Boarding Schools

Kigali, Rwanda – The Ministry of Education, through the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), has released the official travel schedule for students returning to boarding schools for the 2026/2027 academic year.

According to the notice issued on June 18, 2026, students and parents are advised to prepare for school reopening activities, with student transportation set to take place between June 29 and July 2, 2026.

The government has organized transportation by districts to ensure students travel safely and arrive at their schools on time.

On June 29, students from districts including Ruhango, Gisagara, Ngororero, Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Musanze, Nyarugenge, Gasabo, and Kicukiro will begin their journeys to various schools across the country.

The second day, June 30, will see students from Huye, Nyamagabe, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Burera, Rwamagana, and Kayonza travel to their respective schools.

Students from Nyanza, Kamonyi, Karongi, Rutsiro, Rulindo, Gakenke, Ngoma, and Kirehe are scheduled to travel on July 1.

The final phase of transportation will take place on July 2, covering students from Muhanga, Nyaruguru, Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Bugesera, and Gicumbi districts.

Education authorities have urged schools to strictly follow the travel timetable and ensure that students are received on the designated dates. Students have also been instructed to wear their school uniforms while traveling.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to provide transport money to enable students to reach their designated departure points.

In Kigali, students traveling to schools outside the city will board buses at Kigali Pele Stadium, where transportation services will be coordinated.

NESA further reminded students and parents that after 3:00 PM, school buses will no longer be available, meaning late arrivals may face difficulties reaching their schools.

The travel plan is part of government efforts to ensure an organized and smooth return to school as learners prepare to begin the new academic year across Rwanda.
